Changes to player handicaps methodology

06/03/20

Impact on handicaps of margin of victory

We have amended the way in which the margin of victory in a frame affects a player's handicap.

A player’s handicap reduces by one point for every table they win and increases by one point for every table they lose.

From the start of the Summer season, where a player wins a frame by 40 or more points, their handicap will reduce by a further point.  Similarly, where a player loses a frame by 40 or more points, their handicap will increase by a further point.

This replaces the previous rule which enabled a player's handicap to be affected by up to three additional points.

Note that players' handicaps are affected only by regular season League matches.

Captains must remember to mark bonus points on their results cards and, in accordance with the change to rule 54, also include them in the match score.
